Hublot celebrates 20 years of The Fuente Fuente Opus X Cigar

One of the most sought after cigars completes 20 years, and what does Hublot do? Hublot commemorates this occasion with three limited edition Classic Fusion pieces.

Defined as the “world's rarest cigar” by purists from around the world, The Fuente Fuente Opus X cigar is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Having succeeded in growing tobacco plants which produced wrapper leaves of the finest quality, after several failed attempts, Carlos Fuente, CEO Arturo Fuente, set up his first cigar factory in 1980, in the Dominican Republic. What made this feat even better, was the fact that the place resembled the “Pinar del Rio” - the Cuban valley best known for its home-grown tobacco. Thus was born the “Chateau de la Fuente”, the first of the Fuente factories on Hispaniola, the continuity of the Fuente & Cie business that his grandfather had founded in Cuba in 1912.

Achieving the status the Fuente Fuente Opus X cigar has was not an easy task. The “torcedores” had to undergo an additional ten months specific training in order to meet Don Fuente's requirements. The cigar is composed of 9 tobacco leaves, as opposed to the five which are used by other brands. Once rolled, they are “laid down” for at least two years before export, to allow their natural aromas blend through maturation.

“A perfect construction, exquisite aromas associated with a century of tradition: this is what the Fuente Fuente Opus X cigar represents for us. We would like to thank the Hublot watchmaking manufacture for joining us to celebrate this anniversary in the best possible way by launching its three exceptional timepieces and we hope to continue to be associated with this Swiss Made quality.” - Carlito Fuente, CEO Arturo Fuente

The Nyon based watchmaker, Hublot, and the Arturo Fuente cigar maker bonded well over common values they share as two leading houses of their respective industries. Having met for the first time in 2012, Hublot celebrates the 20 year anniversary of their five-year long partner with three limited edition timepieces – marking the third collaboration between the brands. The 45mm Fuente 20th Anniversary Special Edition models are limited to twenty pieces each.

“For any cigar connoisseur, the Fuente Fuente Opus X is an absolute reference, as much in terms of its remarkable flavour as in the quality of its execution. A quest for the finest products and for manufacturing excellence with which we at Hublot totally identify. We are very happy to be able to join in the celebrations of the two decades of this exceptional puro through our third collaboration with the Arturo Fuente house. A partnership that is rolling along nicely!” - Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO Hublot.

The first timepiece comes in a satin-finished ceramic case, encasing a blue dial with the famous X decorating the rings of the legendary puro, doubled for the occasion to become the number 20 in Roman numerals. The 6 o'clock position has “20 years” right above it. The caseback is engraved with the an exclusive illustration of the Fuente family with the “Château de la Fuente. The watch comes with a black alligator strap lined with rubber.

The second timepiece comes in a sublime silvery titanium version with the case and bezel embossed with engravings reproducing the tobacco leaf motifs – partially lacquered in blue - interlinked in the letter X. The grey alligator strap is stitched in blue and lined with rubber.

The third version is in the in-house developed King Gold material. It comes with the same engravings and markings as the titanium model and a brown strap.

All three timepieces are equipped with the HUB1112 caliber, an automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve. They are available in a specially designed cigar box case by Hublot to regulate the humidity.
