Grand Seiko's new Spring Drive 8 day power reserve

Inspired by the night sky, Japanese brand Grand Seiko recently launched a new version of the 2016 released masterpiece.

The Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 day power reserve timepiece was first introduced during Baselworld 2016. The new version comes with the same calibre 9R01, but with an entirely new dial. Inspired by the profound night sky, the dial visualises the night sky in the mountains, surrounding the Micro Artist Studio. Framed in an 18k rose gold case, the black dial adds extra richness to the timepiece, as it encloses the twinkling stars on its surface.

The dial is a special combination of both plating and painting techniques, and is sprinkled with golden stardust. The razor edge polishing of the five-faceted profile of the hands and hour markers, along with the sharp mirror finish achieved using the Zaratsu technique, define the unique Grand Seiko signature.

The sapphire caseback reveals the movement. Upon a closer look, one can outline the figure of Mt. Fuji from the shape of the bridge and the rubies.

The timepiece will be made available from September this year.
