A day before Watches and Wonders 2024, Jacob & Co. marked its presence with the new Astronomia Régulateur timepiece that features a floating 3D movement. It was in 2016 when the brand first introduced the Astronomia Tourbillon, where imitation satellites rotated around a central axis on different arms, one of which had the flying tourbillon. The rotation speed then was 20 minutes, which was further increased to 1 turn per minute in the Astronomia Revolution launched in 2023. This development in acceleration is now carried on in the new Astronomia Régulateur where the flying tourbillon makes one rotation in 1 minute, on one of the three axes.
Crafted in 18K rose gold, at the heart of this 43mm timepiece lies the hand-wound calibre JCAM56 which has a vertical architecture. This leads to the flying tourbillon having a second axis making it a double-axis flying tourbillon. The other two axes carry the 12-hour and 60-minute subdials, making for an unconventional display where the dial has hours, minutes, seconds at three different locations. These subdials or disks are domed and made of blue polycarbonate with white printed scales, and rotate at the same speed, 1 rotation per minute, over polished titanium that forms the base of the dial. The hands on the subdials are dauphine-shaped and made with 5N Red Gold. For the seconds, a golden hand sticks out of the base of the vertical movement, pointing at a graduated ring featuring the 60-seconds markings, that spins in the counterclockwise direction. All of this is visible through the domed sapphire crystal which also forms the caseband of the watch for an enhanced view, and the lugs are openworked. The power reserve offered by this movement is about 48 hours.
The water resistance of the watch is up to 30 metres and the timepiece comes with a blue alligator leather completed with an 18K rose gold deployment buckle. The timepiece is a limited edition of 250 and is priced at approx. ₹2,33,26,000.
