Zenith introduces the 50-piece limited edition Defy Extreme Jungle

The latest Defy Extreme Jungle is inspired by the colour and theme of a jungle and tropical rainforest
After the release of the 50-piece limited edition Defy Extreme Desert (Ref 95.9200.9004/77.I001) in 2022, which focussed on ruggedness and natural stones, and last year’s 50-piece limited edition Defy Extreme Glacier (Ref 95.9201.9004/25.I001) inspired by frozen and barren landscapes, Zenith is adding another limited edition to the mix. Rife with the colour and theme of jungles and tropical rainforests is the new Defy Extreme Jungle (Ref 95.9202.9004/26.I001).

Defy Extreme Jungle

For the latest Defy Extreme Jungle, the manufacturer has covered the centre of the main dial and the three subdials with green-coloured sapphire glass, while the edges of the totalizers are decorated with an orange and black striped, tiger-skin-like pattern. Tigers live not only in tropical rainforests, for example in Sumatra, and in similar jungle areas in countries such as India, Nepal and Bangladesh. There they benefit from the dense vegetation, which helps them to camouflage themselves and hunt their prey unnoticed. On the Defy Extreme Jungle, the predator appears in two other places: the 12-sided bezel and the bezels of the pushers are made of tiger's eye, an impressively shimmering quartz stone that has always been valued in jewellery making for its fascinating gold and brown tones.

1/100-second chronograph

Zenith could never have played the jungle theme as effectively as with an open dial: next to and behind the subdials you can see the whole ‘swarm’ of wheels, levers and springs, reminiscent of the chaos of trees, creepers and exotic animals in the jungle - although in a Swiss watch movement, everything follows a precisely sophisticated and calculated order. What you see there belongs to the renowned Zenith manufacture calibre El Primero 9004 with automatic winding and 50 hours of power reserve. The high-frequency chronograph allows the user of the watch to stop time to the hundredth of a second. To make this easy to read, the central seconds counter rotates around the dial once per second. The totalizer at 6 o'clock counts up to 60 seconds, after which you also look at the 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock.

The movement contains two oscillation and escapement systems: one for the watch with the usual 5 Hertz (36,000 A/h) for Zenith, and one exclusively for the chronograph with 50 Hertz (360,000 A/h). The power reserve for the latter can be read from the display at 12 o'clock, and the small seconds are at 9 o'clock.

Comfortable strap-changing system

The 45 mm case of the chronograph is made of brushed titanium and its water resistance to 200 meters makes the watch suitable for extreme conditions. Luminous indices and hands in beige ensure clear readability in every situation. In addition, like every Defy Extreme, the limited edition offers an uncomplicated strap-changing system that is operated by pressing a button on the caseback. This means that the strap can be attached and removed easily and without tools. The Jungle Edition includes three different straps: a titanium strap, a khaki green strap made of embossed rubber with a titanium folding clasp and a black Velcro strap.

The exclusively 50-piece boutique edition is priced at Rs. 24,98,720 (approx.)
