Inspired by the iconic Memovox Polaris watch from 1968, the Grande Maison Jaeger-LeCoultre took it upon themselves to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Memovox with the new Polaris collection.
The new collection doesn’t bring you just one or two timepieces, but a range of six different watches each with variations in the strap and dial, to compensate for a man’s every need. You have the Polaris Date, the Polaris Memovox, the Polaris Automatic, the Polaris Chronograph, the Polaris Chronograph World Time, and the Polaris Geographic World Time. Together, these watches follow the same basic design structure, albeit with different functionalities.
The design of the new Polaris range is very distinctive with three concentric circles on the dial: a Memovox Polaris-inspired center with a sunray finish, graining on the outer circle with the hours and minutes, and an opaline finish on the rotating inner bezel. Historically black, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris is offered in a black or ocean blue dial, bringing a sense of urban elegance.
The cases are brand new and proportioned to complement the new-age elegant sports watch. The large crowns, emblematic of the 1968 model, have been redesigned for better grip. The exhibition backs of three pieces in this new collection show off the high watchmaking manufacture movements, complete with an oscillating weight featuring the emblematic Jaeger-LeCoultre logo.
We’ve listed out the highlight of each timepiece below:
The Polaris Automatic
Hands down, the iconic two crowns from the 1968 original model. They stand out, beautifully, and perfectly represent the brand’s sync between history and technique. To know more, click here.
The Polaris Chronograph
The redesigned pushers and the thin bezel. The pushers offer a much better grip for the user while the thin bezel helps open the dial a bit more for maximum legibility – something important in a chronograph.
It’s also the only current model available in a precious metal option – rose gold. For more, click here.
The Polaris Chronograph World Time
The additional crown at the 10’clock position – apart from the two chronograph pushers – which allows the user to control the rotating city disc easily. More information here.
The Polaris Date
The vintage look and feel of the watch. It is seen with the Vanilla Super-LumiNova™*, the triangle along with trapezoidal indices mixed with four Arabic numbers, a railway track for the minutes, and the date at three o’clock. The case for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date features a glass box where the crystal is raised from the case, evoking its vintage inspiration. Additionally, the case back is closed and features an engraving of a SCUBA diver, similar to the engraving that was found on the inner case back of the 1968 model. Details here.
The Polaris Memovox
The fact that it is a direct descendant of the first automatic alarm watch movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 1950s. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this 50th-anniversary piece has an iconic three-crown design: one for setting the alarm (top), one for the inner rotating bezel (middle) and one for setting the time (bottom). The Polaris Geographic World Time
It has to be the small sun indicating the daytime hours – black numerals on a white background – and the little crescent moon for the night hours – white numerals on a black background. The 250-piece smoky blue limited edition also allows the user to switch between standard and daylight saving according to seasons. More information here.
