The second edition of Hublot x Takashi Murakami is here

Murakami’s iconic flower motif became part of Hublot’s Classic Fusion line earlier this year in the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black. As the watchmaker and artist come together for the second time, the previous all-black edition gets a colour and transparency update in the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow

After launching the first timepiece, the ceramic 45mm Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black, at the start of the year, Hublot has now unveiled the second edition of this collaboration with the renowned Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. The new watch is the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow, once again based on the smiling flower, the theme for Murakami’s work. Only this time, the design moves from all-black to colour, with a transparent sapphire case.

Limited to just 100 pieces, the microblasted rhodium plated dial of the watch, like its predecessor, has a rotating flower design, where the 12 petals move. These are now set with 487 stones representing the colours of the rainbow: Rubies, pink sapphires, amethysts, blue sapphires, tsavorites, yellow, and orange sapphires. Another difference between the first and second model is the case: The new watch has a sapphire case, which is something of a Hublot signature this year. Although, the characteristic features of the 45mm Classic Fusion model is a familiar one, the sapphire gives this model a distinctive identity, making it possible to see the movement.

“Our continuing collaboration with Takashi Murakami is taking us to new lands of expression as yet unexplored by the watchmaking world,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO, Hublot. “In this work, artistic creation and our company's know-how intertwine to give birth to a work of art you can wear on your wrist.”

Added Takashi Murakami, “This partnership with Hublot has enabled me to express my creativity in what is a totally new medium for me. The mastery of the watchmaker's technicians has opened up new fields of possibilities for my inspiration. The result is this new watch in the colours of the rainbow."
