When it comes to watches for women, Blancpain has had a couple of aces up its sleeve, which it has revealed with aplomb, over the years. The brand is credited with creating the first self-winding ladies' wristwatch, the Rolls, in 1930, and the world's smallest round watch at the time, the Ladybird, in 1956. The Ladybird is, in fact, the brand’s flagship line for women, the timepieces in the collection examples of the watchmaker’s creativity. Joining this line now is the Ladybird Saint-Valentin 2022, the brand’s offering for women, for Valentine’s Day.
Set in signature V-Day colours of white and red, the 34.9mm white gold watch has a mother-of-pearl dial and an inner ring set with diamonds. With elegance as its leitmotif, the hour markers have been crafted as large, varnished Arabic numerals (reminiscent of several Ladybird models), in the colour red, and the seconds hand, much like Cupid, pierces a small heart. The bezel and lugs also turn the spotlight on femininity with 58 diamonds that they are set with; the crown is set with a rose-cut ruby. The strap is a textured red alligator leather, featuring a diamond-set pin buckle.

The Ladybird Saint-Valentin 2022 is a through and through watch made for women, the proof of which is also visible through the exhibition caseback. The watch is powered by the self-winding Calibre 1153 with a silicon balance spring, often seen in Ladybird watches; its decorated mainplate and bridges are visible through the sapphire glass. The oscillating weight mimics the circular pattern of the dial design, and the ultra-thin movement, with a thickness of 3.25mm, beats at a frequency of 3Hz, and has a 95-hours power reserve. The watch is water-resistant to 30 metres.
