Sir Elton John’s 31 watches are up for grabs at Christie’s New York auctions

The timepieces that will go under the hammer in three different auctions include 13 Cartiers, five Chopards, and four Hublots amongst other pieces
Auction house Christie’s is bringing forward a series of eight auctions that offer various items that populated the former residence of music legend Sir Elton John. Items that are available for picking include photographs, artworks, stage costumes, fashion memorabilia, and watches that populated the apartment he bought in 1992 on Peachroad Tree, Atlanta. Six of the auctions are online, and are slated for February 9-28, while two are live auctions, one on Feb 21, and the other over Feb 22 and 23.

The 31 watches are spread among three auctions: There is ‘The Collection of Sir Elton John: The Jewel Box’ (online auction Feb 9-27), with 17 watches; ‘Opening Night’ (Feb 21, live auction) with three watches; and “The Collection of Sir Elton John: The Day Sale’ (Feb 22,23, Live auction) featuring 11 watches.

ROLEX DAYTONA MODEL, REF. 116598SACO

It is well known that Sir Elton John loved watches, and a glimpse of that affection can be seen in the watches that have been made available as part of this auction. Displaying the same flamboyance and love for maximalism that the singer-composer is known for is the striking and rare gold and diamond yellow sapphire set automatic Rolex Daytona (Ref. 116598 SACO) with leopard print strap and dial. First released in the 2004 Basel Fair, the 40mm watch is estimated to fetch between USD 40,000 – USD 60,000, and comes with Sir Elton John Sale Certificate, 18k gold Rolex deployant clasp stamped '24643', and a presentation box. 




His massive collection, most of it featuring precious gems, further features 13 Cartiers, among which the most striking one is a rare silvered dial Cartier Crash in 18K gold, a 400-piece limited edition. The estimated price of this model is USD 70,000 – USD 100,000. Another one is an eye-catching 18K white gold Cartier, whose frame is set with baguette-cut diamonds and dial with baguette-cut sapphires - its estimated price is USD 20,000 – USD 30,000. 

CHOPARD, ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION 'PIECE UNIQUE' MODEL, REF. 1279,

There are five Chopards, including a unique 18K white gold and diamond-set automatic chronograph. This is an Elton John signed model, produced around 2010 to for the purpose of raising money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The entirely bejeweled timepiece features two skulls on its lugs; the timepiece is estimated to fetch between USD 10,000 – USD 15,000.

Other pieces include four Hublots, an 18K white gold and diamond-studded Saxonia by A. Lange & Söhne, a mother-of-pearl dial Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, a diamond concealed dial watch by Vacheron Constantin, a triple calendar Jaeger-LeCoultre, a multi-gem adorned Piaget with quartz movement, and a Roger Dubuis ‘Just for Friends’ Tourbillon.
