Chopard’s collection of ornate watches with poetic complications, Imperiale, gets a new addition with Imperiale Four Seasons Ref. 385394-1001, a watch that measures time while indicating the slow passing of nature’s four seasons on a rotating disc that completes a full revolution over 365 days.
Painted and textured mother-of-pearl rotating discThe rotating disc is painted and features textured mother-of-pearl marquetry, a decorative technique where thin pieces of mother-of-pearl are assembled to create intricate patterns or designs on a surface. This disc is indexed to the hour hand marking its slow shift with time.
The 36 mm dial is crafted from ethical 18-karat white gold with the upper half of the dial covered with a delicate silhouette of a lotus flower — a recurring motif in the imperiale collection – while the lower half of the dial reveals the painted disc marking the seasons. The lotus motif has satin-finished gold petals with polished veins that create a striking contrast of textures. There are gilded openworked dagger-shaped hours and minutes hands marking time with no hour markers. The bezel and crown are set with diamonds.
