For Watches and Wonder this year, Armin Strom set a new benchmark with the release of a new chiming watch - Minute Repeater Resonance 12:59 First Edition (Ref. M26-RMR.5N), a limited edition of 25 pieces.
The Minute Repeater Resonance 12:59 First Edition is a 42 mm titanium watch inspired by the brand’s Masterpiece 2, which was released in 2019 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the brand’s manufacture. It was the world’s first watch to combine the resonance mechanism with a minute repeater.
Taking that as an inspiration, the latest chiming watch appears in new proportions and reworked mechanism. Architecturally, the watch features four hammers and four gongs instead of two; there’s a new function of a selector for users to choose conventional time telling as well as to activate the 12:59 chiming sequence—the longest possible strike.
Its skeletonised polished and matte dial reveals twin balance wheels and a reorganised resonance clutch. There’s central hour and minute hands indicating time via the markings on the flange. The gongs are located at 12 o’clock.
Turn the watch over to see an entirely new manual winding in-house Calibre ARR25, which boasts a power reserve of about 40 hours. The movement features decorations like Geneva stripes, straight and circular graining. It comes on a matte grey alligator strap with dark grey stitching.
