Bangalore Watch Company unveils its first pocket watch

Named Forty Seven, the pocket watch is inspired by the first half of the 20th century
When it comes to homegrown brands, Bangalore Watch Company is one that aims to push the envelope as much as possible. Over the last three years, it has created Admiral, whose dial is made from the steel recovered from the INS Vikrant R11 that served the Indian Navy; Apogee Karman Line that is space certified; and a Peninsula collection inspired by the Indian outdoors, whose recent iteration with a forged carbon dial has made it to the longlist of the GPHG 2026 in the ‘Challenge’ category. This is aside of meteorite dial watches that have been launched, and the brand’s proprietary Cerasteel, a combination of steel coated with ceramic. And now, ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day, the brand has introduced its first pocket watch, called Forty Seven.

In development for 18 months, Forty Seven draws inspiration from the nation’s self-reliance movement or Swadeshi Movement during the mid-20th century, and is a 46 mm pocket watch. Crafted in 316L surgical steel and coated with a rose gold PVD finish, it displays a vintage charm that is enhanced by its off-white linen patterned dial, which is topped with a K1 hardened crystal.

The dial features Roman hour markers and cathedral style hands with Super-LumiNova® that have a vintage glow. There’s also a textured small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. Offering 30 metres of water resistance, the pocket watch is powered by the Ronda 6004.D quartz movement with a run life of about 40 months. A lanyard of oil-pulled genuine leather with a rose gold clip completes the timepiece. It also features a closed caseback, which can be personalized.

“We’ve demonstrated our capability as a watchmaker with several firsts - meteorites, aircraft carrier materials, and even captured carbon. The pocket watch is our attempt to broaden our capability as a watchmaker, and to give our customers a new format to enjoy high-quality time-telling devices with a strong backstory,” says Mercy Amalraj, Co-Founder, Bangalore Watch Company™.

Bangalore Watch Company’s new release comes a few months after the frenzy of the Audemars Piguet and Swatch Royal Pop collaboration, which saw snaking lines for  eight pocket watches that were released, and brought into public consciousness once again this style of timekeeping. But that is where the similarity ends. “Forty-Seven is a tribute to the years that shaped modern India. A pocket watch was the natural choice, because it belonged to that time. Bangalore Watch Company™ has always told stories of the India of today. With this watch, the brand goes back to where those stories first began," says Nirupesh Joshi, Co-Founder, Bangalore Watch Company™.
