Hermès turns silk into art with the Arceau Cheval Natté

The watch is presented in two versions and is limited to 24 pieces each
Hermès brings one of its signature equestrian motifs to the dial of the new Arceau Cheval Natté, combining silk-thread marquetry with diamond setting and champlevé engraving. Limited to 24 pieces in each of two versions, the watch translates a graphic horse motif by designer Tong Ren into a 38 mm rose gold timepiece.

The design was originally conceived by Tong Ren for Hermès home accessories. For the Arceau Cheval Natté, the motif has been adapted to the considerably smaller canvas of a watch dial. At its centre is the head of a horse rendered through geometric lines and blocks of colour. Almost 400 individual silk threads are placed by hand, with each thread positioned in a specific direction. The arrangement creates the impression of movement while giving the dial a textured surface. Depending on how light falls on the threads, the colours and textures change across the composition.

The watch is offered in two versions. The first takes its palette from the vivid colours of the original design, while the second uses a more restrained combination of black, red and brown. Both dials combine the silk marquetry with 123 diamonds, with the stones set alongside areas finished using champlevé engraving.

The 38 mm round case is crafted from rose gold and features a diamond-set bezel with 70 diamonds. The rose gold crown at 3 o’clock is set with an additional diamond. An anti-glare sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a sapphire case-back provides a view of the movement. Powering the watches is the Manufacture Hermès H1912, a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical movement, providing 50-hours of power reserve. It displays the hours and minutes. Through the sapphire case-back, the movement reveals its finishing along with Hermès’ characteristic “sprinkling of Hs” pattern.

The watch is completed with an alligator strap produced in the Hermès workshops. The two versions are paired with either a Dune or black matte alligator strap and secured with a rose gold pin buckle.
