Founded by Georges-Favre Jacot in Le Locle in 1865, Zenith became the first watch brand to vertically integrate all its manufacturing and bring its complete watchmaking process under one roof. In fact, that historical building still hosts the Zenith Manufacture today. In 1888, Zenith acquired the trademark to stamp ‘Pilote’, and later in 1904 ‘Pilot’ on their dials, as a result of which they are the only watch brand in the world that can have ‘Pilot’ on its dial. The brand went on to win several chronometry competitions of the 1950s, unveiling the landmark Calibre 135 during this period, which won it an unprecedented five consecutive Neuchâtel Observatory chronometry prizes from 1950 to 1954. In 1969, Zenith launched the El Primero movement, a fully integrated automatic chronograph movement capable of a high-frequency vibration of 36,000 beats per hour, and in 2017, unveiled the DEFY El Primero 21 beating at 50Hz for an accurate 1/100th of a second chronograph function. Today a part of the LVMH Group, the brand stands for precision and innovation with collections like the Pilot, Defy, Chronomaster, and Elite.
