Last year was a milestone one for Breguet. The brand celebrated its 250th anniversary with a number of releases throughout the year, beginning with the Classique Souscription 2025 debuting in the new Breguet Gold alloy to the finale featuring Expérimentale 1, Classique Répétition Minutes 7365, and Classique Grande Sonnerie Métiers d’Art 1905.
The brand marks another milestone this year, celebrating the 225th anniversary of the tourbillon developed by the French watchmaker and founder Abraham-Louis Breguet, on 26 June 1801.
In the 18th century, when the pocket watches were kept vertically in pockets, the watches tended to lose accuracy because of gravity, which affected the delicate balance wheel, causing the watches to run too fast or too slow. A.L. Breguet put the watch’s beating heart in a tiny cage that rotated a full 360 degrees, to counter the effect of gravity and solved the problem. Today, the tourbillon is known as the horological masterpiece that solved one of the biggest problems affecting accuracy in watches.
Paying tribute to his innovation, the maison has unveiled three exceptional tourbillon watches: Classique Tourbillon 7357, Tradition Tourbillon 7047, and a Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante.
Breguet Classique Tourbillon 7357
Inspired by the brand’s first tourbillon wristwatch produced by Breguet in 1989, the brand has introduced two new Classique Tourbillon 7357, crafted in 950 platinum (Ref. 7357PT/1A/386) and 18-karat Breguet gold (Ref. 7357BH/1H/386).
Both the models are powered by a new Calibre 187B, inspired by Calibre 558, which powered the 1989 model. Enhanced with anti-magnetic properties and a 60-hour power reserve, the new calibre retains the 2.5 Hz frequency of the original calibre.
Featuring a 35 mm hand-guilloche fluted case, the watches also grab attention with their Clous de Paris guilloche (electroplated anthracite or silvered 18-karat Breguet gold) in the centre of the chapter ring and barleycorn pattern around the edges. Moreover, the dial features an off-centre dial at 12 o’clock, a tourbillon at 6 o’clock with a three-arm seconds hand which shows the 60-second count over a 20-second scale on the arc above it.
Breguet Tradition Tourbillon 7047
The new Traditional Tourbillon 7047 (Ref.7047PT/YY/5ZU SL) combines the tourbillon and the fusee-chain system devised by Da Vinci. It is a mechanism that fixes the accuracy problems caused by changes in the mainspring’s energy—its a superlative combination when the 2 come together.
The latest edition is limited to 25 pieces and is encased in 41mm platinum, topped with a double anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The watch debuted with a ‘Bleu de France’ dial and fusee-and-chain. The time is read via 210-carat palladium gold dial featuring Grand Feu Blue France enamel Breguet Arabic hour markers, located off-centrally at 7 o’clock. The tourbillon is located between 1 and 2 o’clock. Turn the watch over to see the manual winding Calibre 569, boasting a 55 hours power reserve.
Breguet Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante
The new Breguet Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante (Ref. 5887PT/YS/5WV SL) is also a 25-piece limited edition, crafted in 950 platinum and measuring 43.9 mm.
The highlight of this model is that along with the tourbillon it also combines a Perpetual Calendar and a Running Equation of Time. The dial features a hand-painted miniature painting on luminescent enamel of the constellation of the sky in the position seen on 26 June 1801, over Paris.
Powering the watch is the automatic movement Calibre 581DPE with an 80 hour power reserve. The watch is completed with a platinum bracelet and also comes on a Bleu de France rubber strap with Quai de l’Horologe motif.
With these three tourbillons the brand has also launched its Classique Tourbillon Sideral 7255 in platinum
