Antarctique, Plique-à-jour – Polar Blue features plique-à-jour technique that literally means “letting in the daylight”—is among the most technically demanding enamel techniques, developed in the Byzantine Empire during the 6th century AD. The process involves applying layers of coloured enamel into open metal cells without any backing. Fired at temperatures of around 900 °C, the enamel fuses to a delicate metal framework—typically crafted in gold—while remaining transparent. The result evokes a miniature stained-glass window, brought to life by light, reflections, and subtle variations in tone.
