Grand Seiko Brings Japan's Ever-changing Seasons To Your Wrist

Called the “Season's Collection”, Grand Seiko celebrates Japan's four seasons with a new series of GMT watches. Discover the full range below:

Twenty-four Sekki – The word “sekki” here means seasons in Japanese. Each of the four seasons in Japan is experienced in six phases with distinctive character traits giving the year a total of “Twenty-four Sekki” or seasonal phases. Each change in the season brings together the nature of time that Grand Seiko as a brand represents.

Based on these changing seasons, Grand Seiko celebrates the arrival of the first cherry blossom to the sound of icy snow with the launch of the “Season's Collection”. Each sekki gets one watch and each watch tells the story of the season it belongs to. The watches belonging to this collection not only celebrate the rhythm of the seasons but also draws inspiration from the beauty of Japanese nature.

From the Shunbun (spring) and Shōsho (summer) to Kanro (Autumn) and Tōji (winter), Grand Seiko has opted two 'Hi-Beat' automatic for the two former seasons, and two Spring Drive models for the latter two.

Shunbun (Spring) – SBGJ251G.

The Spring season in Japan is identified with the blossoming of the cherry trees that have been long covered in frost. These blooming of the Sakura fills the slopes of the mountains creating a beautiful scenery, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan.

Inspired by this phenomenon, Grand Seiko releases the Shunbun SBGJ251G. Crafted in a 39.5mm steel case, the watch features a green dial with a gold GMT hand that is reminiscent of the arrival of spring.

Shōsho (Summer) - SBRJ249

Grand Seiko captures the ripples made in thousands of lakes and ponds with the advent of the warm wind in the blue dial of the Shōsho SBRJ249. Like the shimmering ponds in the early summer sun throughout Japan, the blue dial of the Shōsho SBRJ249 is decorated with a wave pattern that brings this phenomenon to life.

Add to this the long, tapered hands that work in conjunction with the polished steel case makes the Shōsho SBRJ249 a timepieces that cannot be easily forgotten. Both the Shunbun SBGJ251G and the Shōsho SBRJ249 is powered by the high-beat GMT 9S86 that guarantees a power reserve of 55 hours.

Kanro (Autumn)– SBGE271G

Like the season it represents, the Kanro SBGE271G represents a dark and moody time when the season shifts towards the gloomier part of the year when one can sense the chill in the morning air. This sombre mood is expressed in the Kanro SBGE271G with the help of a dark dial colour set against a 40.2mm stainless steel case and bracelet.

Tōji (Winter)–SBGE269G.

As we enter the end of the autumn season and move towards the arrival of the winter solstice, one can notice the short days, crisp air and a muffling of the sound of the wind due to the falling of snow. These signature traits of the winter season is perfectly captured in Grand Seiko's Tōji (Winter)–SBGE269G timepiece. In this timepiece, the textured and frosty silver dial is set against a polished stainless steel case and bracelet, giving the watch a dry and cold aesthetic.the only sense of warmth displayed on the Tōji (Winter)–SBGE269G timepiece is the rose gold GMT hand on the dial.

Both the Kanro (Autumn)– SBGE271G and the Tōji (Winter)–SBGE269G is powered by the 9R66 automatic movement that clocks in a power reserve of 72 hours.
