Ever since it was launched at the start of 2021 with a Kickstarter campaign, by Andrea Furlan, a Swiss industrial designer, and Hamad Al Marri, a watch collector and artist from the Middle East, Furlan Marri has consistently grabbed eyeballs. The latest from them comes via a collaboration with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, watch retailers in the UAE who recently organised Dubai Watch Week 2021. Part of the Mechaquartz line, the new watch, Ref 1061-A Havana Green features a deep green colour change, Arabic indexes, highly polished indexes with curved and domed hands. Its simplicity of reading coupled with a double brushed finish makes it a visually clear, proportioned with a complex yet readable dial.
Like all Mechaquartz models, the watch is a chronograph, with a second counter at 9 o’clock and a 24-hours display; there’s also a tachymeter scale base of 1000 / 24 hours indications. A 38mm diameter case in 316L stainless steel, the movement inside is a Seiko VK64, a mechaquartz with mechanical module. The watch comes with an Italian vegetable tanned bottled green leather straps.
In 2021, Furlan Marri has established its reputation as a micro brand that both watch novices and connoisseurs are taking note of. According to Andrea Furlan, Co-Founder, CEO, and Lead Designer of the brand, “15 years ago, my grandfather left me a watchmaker's cabinet filled with old tools, pocket watch components and letters from suppliers of the " Vallée de Joux " and " Le Brassus ". He also left me his watch — it had a story and that's what touched me. It is fascinating to know that behind every watch, whether diving, lost during the Second world war or belonging to a famous actor, one or more stories are hidden and are ready to be told. These improbable moments have helped us to build Furlan Marri's vision.”
The Ref 1061-A Havana Green is exclusively sold through Seddiqi.
