Panerai’s Luminor Marina is a line that is known for its distinct design – a cushion shape with the brushed finish, solid lugs, polished bezel, and crown guard – but is also synonymous as being for thicker wrists, its 42mm perfectly suited for those who love big watches. But for 2022, Panerai has decided to take the big step towards going smaller. Its new Quaranta references include three Luminor Marina watches that are 2mm smaller, at 40mm.
This is the first time ever that the brand has decided to go smaller in the Luminor Marina family – the idea was to make the line appealing to a larger audience. To do so, the watchmaker has created three dial configurations to suit every type of wearer, each of them being offered with alligator and leather straps (rubber strap options are in the offing) that are switchable thanks to the Quick Release System. The new timepieces come in a stainless steel case, with a seconds subdial at 9 o' clock, and date window at 3 o'clock.

Here’s a closer look at the new timepieces:
Luminor Marina Quaranta PAM01270
With a blue sun-brushed dial and luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers, the PAM01270 is powered by Panerai's P.900 automatic calibre, which has a 72-hours power reserve. The wearer gets an option of either a navy blue alligator or tobacco brown calf leather strap, while the 40mm brushed stainless steel case and brushed steel caseback give this watch a water resistance of 100 metres. The Safety Lock crown protection device is in brushed steel.
Luminor Marina Quaranta PAM01271
This particular variant is more on the classic side, with a white dial with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers. PAM01271 is powered by Panerai's P.900 automatic calibre, with a 72-hours power reserve. Here the wearer has options of black alligator and deep brown calf leather. The watch is water resistant to 100 metres.
Luminor Marina Quaranta PAM01272
Sophisticated yet classic, the black PAM1272 variant has a noir dial with luminous hour markers.
