Tudor leads Watches and Wonders 2022 with new Black Bay models

At the Watches and Wonders 2022 exhibition, Tudor extends its Black Bay lineup with several models in gold and steel.

Adding to the legacy of the Black Bay, Tudor at the Watches and Wonders 2022 presents the Black Bay Pro - an entirely new model with a dual time zone feature. The Black Bay lineup has more in store, like the iconic Black Bay GMT model is now also available in steel and gold version, featuring warm colours and a vintage design appeal; new versions are unveiled for the Black Bay Chrono steel and gold; and the Tudor Royal range. The watchmaker is also introducing the Black Bay 31, 36, 39, and 41 steel and gold models, featuring a curvy design and in-house calibres. Let's explore.

Tudor Black Bay Pro

Tudor's Black Bay Pro has the reference time indicated by an angular yellow 'Snowflake' hand, which completes a lap of the dial every 24 hours. The Local time is indicated by another, shorter Snowflake hand set by a jumping hour, which can be moved either backwards or forwards. The model comes in a 39mm steel case with polished and satin finish and features a fixed steel bezel.

The Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with built-in GMT function was developed by Tudor for the Black Bay Pro Ref. 79470. This engine achieves a power reserve of around 70 hours. The brand has paired the watch with a black strap with a yellow band, woven in France using a traditional method on 19th century Jacquard looms by the Julien Faure company in the St-Etienne region. The Black Bay Pro is also available with a fabric-like hybrid strap in rubber and black leather with a folding clasp. The watch with a black dial is water resistant upto 200 metres.

The new Black Bay GMT Ref. 79833MN is now available in steel and gold version. The GMT function offers local time without losing the sight of the time in two other time zones. This model dons a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel with two colours for a vintage look, representing day and night. With the help of the 24-hour graduated bidirectional rotating bezel and the '24-hour' hand, the wearer can also keep track of a third time zone.

The Manufacture Calibre MT5652 was designed specifically for the Black Bay GMT model, delivering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, marked at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4Hz) and featuring a non-magnetic silicon balance spring. The Black Bay GMT comes housed in a 41mm satin-brushed steel and yellow gold case, which is waterproof to 200 metres. Luminescent hour markers are set against the black dial, ensuring legibility in dark conditions. The dial features a GMT mention at 6 o'clock. The Black Bay GMT can be paired with either a steel and yellow gold bracelet with polished and satin finish or a brown leather strap with steel folding clasp and safety catch or a black fabric strap with beige band and buckle.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono

Tudor's association with motor sports is no secret. And to honour this relationship, the brand introduced its first chronograph in 1970. Now, it's time for their latest chronograph - the Black Bay Chrono with contrasting sub-counters and a high-performance automatic Manufacture Calibre movement, with column wheel and vertical clutch. The dial includes two recessed sub-counters in contrasting colours, a champagne colour and matte black respectively. The 41mm steel and yellow gold case is water resistant upto 200 metres and can be paired with a steel and yellow gold bracelet, or a dark brown leather strap, or a black fabric strap.

The sub-counters have a circular-grained finish, taking inspiration from the first generation of Tudor chronographs. The latest chrono piece features a 45-minute counter and a date aperture positioned at 6 o'clock. The Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813 powers the Black Bay Chrono model, displaying hour, minute, second, chronograph, and date functions. Promising a 70-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, the Manufacture MT5813 chronograph Calibre is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Black Bay 31, 36, 39 and 41

The Black Bay 31, 36, 39, and 41 steel and gold models promise a distinct design aesthetic. Their curved cases, highlighted with polished yellow gold sections make the pieces highly unisex. With its polished and domed sides present in all the sizes, its soft silhouette is adorned with a new curved winding crown. The polished yellow gold of the bezel and crown is also new to the Black Bay line. For something shimmering, Tudor offers the option of a diamond-set bezel for sizes 31, 36, and 39.

The manufacture now offers three families of self-winding movement - large (MT56), medium (MT54), and small (MT52). Manufacture Calibre MT5201 was specifically developed to power watches with smaller dimensions. The power reserve of the large and medium Manufacture movements is about 70 hours. For the Manufacture Calibre MT5201 (family of small movements), the power reserve is approximately 50 hours. These cases are all water resistant upto 100 metres and come paired with a steel and yellow gold bracelet.

Tudor Royal

With its integrated metal bracelet, notched or diamond-set bezel, and automatic movement, the Tudor Royal range is versatile and elegant. It comes in steel or gold and steel and is offered in four sizes with nine possible dials. This Royal range features the sunray motif for its dials and available in black, silver, champagne-colour, or blue, the sunray motif radiates from the centre of the dial. This series has been completed with a diamond-set mother-of-pearl version for the smallest diameter.

The Tudor Royal range features an integrated metal bracelet, characterised by its three wide satin-brushed links set between two slimmer polished elements - available in steel or with alternating links in steel and yellow gold. The 28mm, 34mm, 38mm, and 41mm cases are water resistant upto 100 metres, where the 41mm model is driven by the self-winding Calibre T603 movement, 38 and 34mm models housing the Calibre T601 movement, and the T201 engine driving the 28mm model - all delivering a power reserve of around 38 hours.
