Bulgari launches limited edition timepiece for Amerigo Vespucci

After collaborating with sports bike manufacturer, Ducati for its limited edition timepiece. Bulgari has paid its homage to the world’s first training ship; three-mast Amerigo Vespucci and created a 1,000 piece limited edition, 40mm GMT watch.
The year was 1925 when Regia Marina ordered two school ships to a design by General Lieutenant Francesco Rotundi of the Italian Navy Engineering Corps. The first ship named Cristoforo Colombo, came into service in 1928 and remained in service till 1943. The next ship was Amerigo Vespucci, built in 1930, launched in 1931 and was put in service in July of that very year. Honouring the service of this very ship, Bulgari has unveiled its 1,000 piece limited edition timepiece, Aluminium GMT Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition, as a GMT variant.

Bulgari unveiled its Aluminium model in 1998, was a sporty looking watch. This laid the foundation for all future Bulgari watches. This model was available as both quartz and automatic movements. The newly launched Bulgari Aluminium GMT Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition is based on the 1998 model. The watch is distinguished by its thick black rubber bezel with Bvlgari Bvlgari engraving.

The watch comes on a 40mm aluminium case with a black dial bearing Aluminium GMT, rhodium plated bar-shaped hour markers, while 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock gets Arabic numerals. The watch gets hours and minutes hands with Super-LumiNova, yellow rhodium-plated second hands, and a yellow arrow-shaped GMT hand with a yellow and black 24-hour outer dial. There is a date window at 3 o’clock. There are two 12-hour zones in black and yellow that distinguish between day and night. The GMT function is activated through pulling of the crown at second position.

Turning the watch reveals a closed titanium caseback with black DLC coating bearing the signature "Nave Scuola Amerigo Vespucci" with its motto ‘Non Chi Comincia Ma Quel Che Persevera’ with the engraving of ‘Limited edition of 1000.” The watch comes with a titanium crown. Typical to Italian aesthetics, the watch has aluminium, titanium and rubber materials.

Powering the watch is BVL calibre 192, a mechanical, self-winding movement with a 50-hour of power reserve. The aluminium and titanium caseback give this watch a water resistance of 100m. The watch is completed on a rubber strap with aluminium links and an aluminium pin buckle system. This limited edition watch in a mahogany wood box with Bulgari aluminium signature.
