Now, in its fourth leg, the 2022 Extreme E Championship, an electric car rally supported by Zenith, heads to Chile after a successful stint in Saudi Arabia in February and in Italy in July. The track is set in Calama, a mining city in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth. To commemorate this leg of the race, Zenith has released a third special edition of the DEFY Extreme E, the DEFY Extreme E 'Copper X Prix' (Ref. 10.9100.9004-5/27.I307), a 20-piece limited edition timepiece. The watch follows the launch of the Defy Extreme E ‘Desert X Prix’ Edition.
Zenith DEFY Extreme E 'Copper X Prix' has a 45mm case made of carbon and microblasted titanium Zenith’s Defy Extreme E 'Copper X Prix' Edition mimics the earthy tones of the copper mines of the region, and comes in a 45mm carbon and micro-blasted titanium case. The limited edition timepiece is made from durable carbon fibre, which includes the crown at 3 o’clock engraved with the Zenith star, and the two chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and the 4 o’clock. The chronograph pusher protectors and the twelve-sided bezel are made of micro-blasted titanium.
The watch is a limited edition of only 20 pieces The multi-layer dial with tinted sapphire crystals elements, has a copper-brown minute track, a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute sub-dial at 3 o’clock, a 60-second sub-dial at 6 o’clock, and a chronograph power reserve indication at 12 o’clock with copper-coloured markings. The bar-shaped hour markers and sword-shaped hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated, faceted, and coated with Super-LumiNova.

Partially visible through the dial is the movement, the automatic Calibre El Primero 9004, which powers the 1/100th of a second chronograph, has two escapements with a frequency of 5Hz for the timekeeping movement and 50Hz for the chronograph, and has a minimum 50-hour power reserve. The transparent 12-sided sapphire crystal caseback gets four visible screws, a star-shaped, black-coloured oscillating weight, a copper-coloured ‘Copper X Prix’ engraved logo, and the individual watch number out of 20.
Zenith DEFY Extreme E “Copper X Prix case’s lid coating is made from E-grip recycled tires With a water resistance of 200 metres, Zenith’s Defy Extreme ‘Copper X Prix’ timepiece sits on an interchangeable velcro straps in brown cordura-effect rubber and with a rubber inlay and a micro-blasted titanium triple folding clasp. The rubber is infused with materials of upcycled Continental CrossContact tires that were used in the first season’s races. The watch comes with two more straps - black rubber and black velcro. The watch is delivered on a waterproof and crushproof watch case whose lid coating is made from E-grip recycled tyres and the plate covering is crafted from parts of racing tarpaulin.
