What makes Jacob & Co. Billionaire III worth INR 27 crore?

Studded with a whopping 800 white gold diamonds, the Jacob & Co. Billionaire III was recently seized at Delhi airport
A man was recently arrested by Customs at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport for trying to smuggle seven wristwatches worth ₹28.17 crore — one of them was Jacob & Co. Billionaire III, which alone costs ₹27 crore. The other timepieces were five Rolex Oyster watches and a Piaget Limelight Stella watch.

First introduced in 2015, the Billionaire collection by Jacob & Co. is recognised for offering a seamless combination of extravagance and cutting-edge performance. The Jacob & Co. Billionaire III is the tourbillon variant, featuring 800 18K white gold diamonds that weigh over 129 carats. Another unique attribute of this watch is that instead of being vertically set, all the diamonds are horizontally studded which gives a refreshing and modern look to the timepiece. Jacob & Co. is an expert in the setting of these stones, working with the very best gem setters in the industry.

Measuring 54x43mm, the Jacob & Co. Billionaire III comes with a perfectly legible skeleton dial that offers a glimpse of the movement inside. Apart from the bridges, which are also set with white diamonds, the display consists of a central, two-hand timekeeping system and the tourbillon complication at the six o’clock position.

The watch is powered by the Caliber JCAM39 that beats at a frequency of 21,600vph and has a power reserve of up to 72 hours. The movement also features three different kinds of finishing — hand-angled, sand-blasted, and drawn flank. Apart from the skeleton dial, the calibre is also visible through the exhibition caseback. The Jacob & Co. Billionaire III is limited to just 18 units.
