Meet the new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel

Audemars Piguet has expanded its Code 11.59 collection by introducing a watch that takes its design codes from a pocketwatch made for a pope in the 17th century
First introduced in 2019, the Code 11.59 collection by Audemars Piguet is best recognised for offering timepieces with distinctive designs and state-of-the-art mechanisms. Now, it has come out with a brand-new piece, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel, which takes inspiration from a pocketwatch specially crafted for a pope in the 17th century.

The new Audemars Piguet watch consists of a wandering hours complication inside an 18-karat white gold Code 11.59 case with a black ceramic mid-case. Sized at 41mm, it has a dial with a 120-degree minute scale at 12 o’clock and three black hour discs. Each of these discs is overlaid with four white numbers and they all rotate along their own axis, and the entire central module rotates throughout the day. The time is indicated by the black triangle next to the current hour, which points to the minute marker placed on the aforementioned minute scale. There is also a seconds scale placed at the periphery of the dial. The seconds are indicated with the help of a long central seconds hand.

Notably, this isn’t the first time that the brand has offered the wandering hours complication.  Audemars Piguet first released this mechanism in 1991 when it came out with a watch called the Star Wheel, which showcased three transparent sapphire discs affixed to a wheel, displaying all the discs at once and not just a single digit for the current hour. It is to this original timekeeper that the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel pays homage

Under the hood is the self-winding Calibre 4309, which comprises 32 jewels and 224 components. The movement of the Code 11.59 collection by Audemars Piguet runs at a frequency of 28,800vph with a power reserve of at least 70 hours. Featuring a flawless finish, the calibre comes with a skeletonized oscillating weight made from 22K pink gold — it can be admired from the exhibition caseback.

The new Audemars Piguet watch is paired with a textured black rubber-coated strap with an 18K white gold pin buckle. Additionally, the watch is water resistant up to 30m.
