LVMH Watch Week 2023: TAG Heuer's 60th anniversary Carrera, a new bold Monza, and Connected watches

The TAG Heuer novelties at LVMH Watch Week 2023 paid tribute to the Heuer Carrera with a 60th anniversary edition, along with other sporty timepieces
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera, and flagging that off at LVMH Watch Week 2023 was the Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition. Released alongside were the new titanium Solargraph, a bold carbon-cased Monza, and three Connected watches. Let’s get into the details of these new timepieces.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary

TAG Heuer used LVMH Watch Week 2023 to flag off the 60th-anniversary celebrations of the 1963 Carrera. Back then, Jack Heuer, former CEO and current Honorary Chairman got inspiration from Mexico’s thrilling road race, the Carrera Panamericana, and decided to name a wrist-worn chronograph in its name. It had a simple round case which spoke of its minimalistic appeal. The idea behind making this chronograph was to help read time lapses easily during a race, making it a legible racing instrument.

The legacy of the original Carrera lives on with TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition. Inside the 39mm case, the silver sunray burst dial features three black subdials creating the appearance of ‘panda’ and references the vintage 2447 SN (S stands for silver and N stands for noir- a mix of English and French). The chronograph hand on the dial has a black lacquered finish while the hour and minute hands along with markings are layered with beige Super-LumiNova®. Conforming to the original version is the black Carrera Heuer logo on the dial.

The Calibre HEUER 02 Automatic movement

Calibre HEUER 02 Automatic movement runs the watch and offers about 80 hours of power reserve. The mechanical movement of the watch is displayed through the caseback. The polished steel case has the crown at 3 o’clock and push buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock. The black strap is made with perforated calfskin. The timepiece offers water-resistance up to 100 metres. For the 60th Anniversary edition, the watch will be produced in 600 pieces for aficionados.

TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer

Niki Lauda’s iconic win in the 1975 F1 World Championship marked the birth of the original Heuer Monza. 48 years later, TAG Heuer Monza makes a comeback in a 42mm ultra-lightweight and resistant carbon case of TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer. The new version carries three notable complexities with respect to being a sports watch - a chronograph, a tachymeter scale, and a pulsometer.

This sporty timepiece is powered by the TAG Heuer Calibre Heuer 02 COSC Flyback movement. The black dial features two subdials capped in translucent fumé blue sapphire crystal with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and the small seconds at 6 o’clock while 9 o’clock has the date aperture. The chronograph hand and the index are blue lacquered and Super-LumiNova® over the minute and hour hands give the watch the ability to show time in the dark. The skeletonized dial reveals the mechanical movement of the watch. The timepiece offers water resistance up to 100 metres and is worn with a black textile strap with textile lining and blue stitching details.

A date aperture lies at 3 o’clock with Aquaracer TAG Heuer logo at 12 o’clock. The watch has a unidirectional turning bezel and offers water-resistance up to 200 metres.
