Holding more than 20 patents to its name since its launch in 2001, Ulysse Nardin's Freak series welcomes the latest addition to the family, the Freak One, revealed today at Watches and Wonders 2023.
Ulysse Nardin's Freak One carries forward with its signature No Hands, No Crown, No Dial tradition challenging the watchmaking industry. Inspired by the original piece, the new model is regulated by a silicon hairspring that was introduced in 2008 and an escapement treated with DIAMonSIL, making the watch movement abrasion and shock-resistant.
The time-setting system of the Freak One lies with the bezel, which is activated when the locker at 6 o’clock is lifted, releasing the setting system. The black sunray-engraved barrel cover under the movement doubles as the rotating hour disc while the distinctive minute bridge hovers under the sapphire crystal. It carries the entire gear train, an oversized silicon oscillator, and an orbital 60-minute flying carrousel tourbillon.
The Freak One's automatic UN-240 movement houses a 72-hour power reserve and sits on a rubber strap designed by Ulysse Nardin’s Swiss partner BIWI and is made of 30 percent recycled products.
