Summer Fresh: Breguet’s Reine de Naples in a mint green

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Breguet has unveiled a Reine de Naples watch in a new hue
Breguet’s rich legacy in timepieces for women goes back to the time of Caroline Murat, the Queen of Naples and the younger sister of Napoleon, who commissioned the brand’s founder, Abraham Louis Breguet, to make her a wristwatch in 1810. This was a time when women wore watches as sautoir necklaces, so when Breguet delivered the watch two years later, the piece marked an epoch in horology, becoming the first wristwatch ever made. The said watch had an oblong case that framed a silver guilloché dial, and featured a quarter repeater, a moonphase, and a thermometer. Inspired by this piece, the modern Breguet brand created the line Reine de Naples.

Now, for the 2024 International Women’s Day, Breguet has launched a new watch to pay tribute to women who have made indelible marks on history, much like Caroline Murat. The new 36.5mm x 28.45mm Reine de Naples in white gold (Ref. 8918BB5D964D0) features a delicate, double-shaded mint green colour on its Arabic hourmakers and leather strap – the light hue follows previous iterations in pink, grey, and white.

The diamond-studded dial

Lending it more femininity are the diamonds on the chapter ring, bezel, crown, and clasp; the white mother-of-pearl dial is partly studded with snow-set diamonds as well, with a pear-shaped diamond at 6 o'clock. The watch features signature Breguet elements, like the open-tipped hands and the watch number between 11 and 12 o’clock.

The watch is powered by the automatic 537/3, with a 45-hours power reserve. It is water resistant to 30 metres.
