TAG Heuer has strengthened its bond with Porsche with the unveiling of the new Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963, which celebrates the history of Porsche’s endurance racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Porsche 963 was that one engineering marvel by the automobile brand that was designed to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and also won many other races. In honour of that, the new timepiece is created as a limited edition of 963.
The highlight of the piece are the three subdials with four Super-LumiNova (SLN) blocks, that take cues from the LED light design of the Porsche 911, and glow in the nighttime for enhanced legibility. The date aperture is also coated with the same lume. Another racing element lies at 4 o’clock where the red indexes symbolise countdown at the start of the race.
The 44mm steel case is fixed with black forged carbon bezel featuring a tachymeter with white Super-LumiNova® “PORSCHE” printed logo and grey markings. The push buttons and crown are made with black DLC steel. Inside is the “Tubular” skeleton dial with NAC finishing. At 3 o’clock lies the minute counter, 6 o’clock has the seconds counter, and at 9 o’clock is the hour counter. The indexes and hands are also coated with white Super-LumiNova®, while the central seconds hand is red-lacquered, as well as hands on hour and minute chronograph counters.
Calibre TH20-00 powers the watch, which is designed with a vertical chronograph mechanism similar to the systems found in cars connecting the engine’s flywheel with the transmission. The stopping function here is smooth.
The watch is water resistant up to 100 metres and comes with a black integrated rubber strap with steel folding clasp. It is available for purchase starting June 2024 and is priced at ₹8,41,000 (approx.)
