On its Instagram handle, Richard Mille has been dropping hints about its new releases in sapphire for quite some time now. The brand finally unveiled the new launches yesterday - the RM 07-02 Automatic Sapphire comes in four iterations and is limited to seven pieces each.
Since the introduction of the first models with sapphire cases in 2015, Richard Mille has steadily expanded its expertise in the processing of this sophisticated material. With the new collection, the brand presents four fascinating variants: including a completely new shade of purple as well as models in pink, green and with gemstones.
The processing of sapphire is a technical challenge that Richard Mille masters with flying colors. The striking tonneau-shaped case, known for its ergonomic fit, requires extreme precision due to the hardness and sensitivity of the material. The production of a case alone requires over 1,000 hours of work, of which 430 hours are for shaping and 350 hours for polishing. In addition, an anti-reflective coating on the bezels ensures a clear view of the movement.
The heart of the RM 07-02 is a spectacular dial that impresses with its geometric symmetry and artistic gemstone decoration. Diamonds, colored sapphires, orange spessartite and green gemstones such as tsavorite and malachite catch the light and highlight the elegance of the case. The interplay of the cabochon crown, sparkling gemstones and sophisticated design makes each watch a true masterpiece. The case dimensions are 32.90 x 46.75 x 14.35 mm.
The creation of colored sapphires, such as those found in the RM 07-02, requires an even higher level of expertise. The integration of metal oxides into the crystal structure and the precise control of the growth process require numerous attempts until the perfect color nuance is achieved. The processing and setting of gemstones represents a technical masterpiece: using the latest laser technology and hand-polished gold claws, the stones are precisely set into the case.

But it's not just the look that impresses: Inside the sapphire case is the skeletonized CRMA5 automatic movement . This precise caliber with a power reserve of around 50 hours offers an impressive mix of functionality and aesthetics. The rotor with variable geometry allows individual adjustment to the wearer's habits, while the gold plate and bridges shine thanks to elaborate hand finishing.
With the RM 07-02 Automatic Sapphire, Richard Mille proves once again that luxurious design and technical innovation can merge harmoniously. The four versions made of pink sapphire with gemstones, violet sapphire, green sapphire and green sapphire with gemstones are each limited to seven pieces.
