Breitling takes a nostalgic journey into motorsport chronographs with three meticulously crafted tributes to the golden era of automotive racing, capturing the spirit of speed, precision, and adventure. The new Top Time B01 collection draws inspiration directly from the transformative 1960s, a period when Willy Breitling, grandson of founder Leon Breitling, created an unconventional line of racing-inspired chronographs that embodied the era's freewheeling spirit. These latest limited editions are not merely nostalgic reproductions but modern interpretations that seamlessly blend vintage design elements with contemporary watchmaking technology.
At the heart of these timepieces is Breitling's flagship Manufacture Caliber 01, a COSC-certified chronometer engineered for precision under extreme conditions. This self-winding mechanical movement boasts an impressive 70-hour power reserve and features 284 components operating at a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour. The calibre ensures exceptional timekeeping accuracy, making these watches as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing.
The collection comprises three distinct models, each limited to just 750 pieces and featuring a sleek 38mm stainless steel case that strikes a perfect balance between classic proportions and modern sensibilities. The watches showcase several distinctive design elements that pay tribute to the original Top Time chronographs, including a cushion-shaped case, bold tachymeter scale, and unique "squircle" subdials, a playful geometric compromise between square and round shapes.
One of the most captivating design features is the signature "dashboard" dial motif, an elliptical design directly inspired by classic car dashboards. This element immediately transports the wearer back to the golden age of motorsport, evoking memories of legendary racing machines and the adrenaline-fueled world of competitive driving.
The watches feature a cambered sapphire crystal with glare-proofing on both sides, water resistance up to 100 meters, and Super-LumiNova luminescent hour markers and hands for excellent readability in all lighting conditions. The self-winding mechanism and column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch ensure smooth and precise timekeeping and stopwatch functionality.
The first two models in the Top Time Racing edition offer compelling colour variations. One features a striking black and white dial paired with a beige leather strap, while the other presents a dynamic green and white dial complemented by a matching perforated green leather racing strap—a subtle nod to vintage driving gloves. Each watch is individually numbered and engraved with "One of 750" on the caseback, emphasizing their exclusive nature.
The third model, created in collaboration with the legendary Italian Martini Racing team, represents a particularly exciting addition to the collection. This chronograph captures the essence of one of motorsport's most iconic brands, featuring a dial dominated by Martini Racing's signature blue, light blue, and red stripes—a colour combination that has been synonymous with racing excellence for over five decades. The watch comes with a perforated dark blue leather racing strap and is also limited to 750 pieces, with special "One of 750" and "Martini Racing" engravings.
This collaboration with Martini Racing celebrates the shared passion for performance, precision, and speed. The Top Time Martini Racing model pays tribute to one of motorsport's most celebrated liveries, instantly recognisable by its distinctive stripes.
