A watch is called a grande complication when it has complex yet high-precision functions like a minute repeater, a tourbillon, and a perpetual calendar. The latest grande complication from Roger Dubuis ticks all the boxes. The brand created its first completely in-house Grande Complication Calibre in 2009, and the one created now is the second one.

This is a limited edition of 8 pieces, encased in 45mm pink gold. The skeleton dial of the watch is topped with a sapphire crystal, revealing a brand’s signature Celtic cross style flying tourbillon in between 5 and 6 o’clock. Further, there is a biretrograde display—the day of the week is shown on the left and the date is shown on the right sideand the month subdial is located between 11 and 12 o’clock, with a mini dial to its right for leap year indication. The minute repeater features a tritone chime, which is activated by the pusher on the left.

Visible from the sapphire crystal caseback, powering the watch is the automatic Calibre RD118 with 60 hours of power reserve. An interchangeable 3D brown calf-skin leather strap completes the watch.

The new Excalibur Biretrograde Calendar is a contemporary version of the brand’s first biretrograde signature display launched in 1996. The latest version features a 40mm pink gold case with a silver-plated double surface flange dial. There are the brand’s signature style retrograde dials for the day and the date on the left and right side of the dial, respectively. Moreover, the time telling is done by the central dial while the small seconds subdial is at 6 o’clock.
