Material Gain: The TAG Heuer Monaco Titan

Making a case for titanium is the new TAG Heuer Monaco Titan Special Edition, which pays homage to the popular Monaco Grand Prix.

TAG Heuer's association with the Monaco Grand Prix is a pretty well-known partnership. The Swiss watch brand has been associated with this racing event since Heuer paid homage to the Grand Prix de Monaco with the launch of the Monaco line in 1969. The now-iconic timepiece was created and launched with a vision to connect the racing world with TAG Heuer (then Heuer) because Jack Heuer considered motorsports to be a natural fit for the chronograph and timekeeping expert.

And since the first 1969 Monaco timepiece, TAG Heuer has been deeply associated with the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco. It is the Official Timekeeper of the classic Grand Prix de Monaco Historique and the Official Watch of the Monaco Top Cars Collection museum. Apart from this, the brand has also always supported the motorsport racing event with regular unveiling of new timepieces inspired by the race (read our review here).

For the 2021 edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer announced the release of a brand new interpretation of the legendary Monaco timepieces – the Monaco Titan Special Edition. Offering a sporty and understated aesthetic, the new exclusive chronograph watch is limited to just 500 pieces worldwide.

The watch comes in a striking new titanium material that has rarely been used in this collection (last was when the 2004 Monaco V4 was released). The Grade 5 titanium is exceptionally light and tough, making it the perfect timepiece to be worn on and off the racetrack. Adding to the monochromatic tone of the watch is the silver-coloured dial that offers legibility with contrasting sub-dials indexes and hands. The black sub dials, the bright red accent of the central hand, and the red index marker at 12 o' clock offers a conducive look to the watch.

Powered by a modern version of the famous Calibre 11 automatic chronograph movement, the 2021 TAG Heuer Monaco Titan comes in a sporty anthracite alligator strap decorated with tyre hooves of racing tracks.
