Luxury watchmaker Arnold & Son's fascination with the moon is well known. Last year, the brand unveiled its Luna Magna Ultimate I in 18K white gold, its bezel and lugs set with baguette-cut diamonds. The dial was crafted with ruthenium crystals, while an opal subdial with the hours and minutes featured at 12 o'clock; an oversized moonphase in white gold, studded with diamonds and blue sapphires sat at 6 o'clock. Now, at Geneva Watch Days 2022, the brand has launched its new 40mm Luna Magna Ultimate II (Ref 1LMM.WZ04A.C213A) in 18K white gold, a limited edition of just eight pieces.
The 2022 Magna Ultimate II mught seem like a clean, fuss-free piece, but features one of the largest 3D moonphase complications ever in a watch. At the 2022 Geneve Watch Days, this newly launched timepiece comes with blue lagoon, PVD treated ruthenium crystals on the dial, and a total of 112 baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel and lugs.
The timepiece features a traditional layout of a white opal dial at 12 o' clock with Roman numerals. The
3D moon though gets a new look in white gold, set in pavé with 161 diamonds and pariba tourmalines. The watch has been created to display a lunar cycle of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds, for 122 years.
The watch is powered by the same in-house A&S1021 calibre that powered the Luna Magna Ultimate I, with a power reserve of 90 hours. Turning the watch reveals an open, sapphire crystal caseback. A traditional oscillating weight gets replaced by a moonphase at 6 o'clock along with six visible screws, an engraving of 'Limited', and also the individual watch number out of eight, just like its predecessor. Also, it is at the back of the watch that the moonphase setting dial is placed, at the center of the new Caliber A&S1021.
This
limited edition timepiece sits on a lagoon-blue alligator skin leather strap with raspberry-pink alligator-skin lining with an 18K white gold pin buckle system set with 26 baguette-cut diamonds. The white gold case gives this watch a water resistance of 30 metres.
