While the Black Bay Fifty Eight and Black Bay Pro have been more front and centre when it comes to popular Tudor models, the Pelagos line has held its own in the arena of tool watches. The 42mm Pelagos FXD, Pelagos LHD, and Pelagos represent Tudor’s complete traditional mechanical divers offerings, with Helium valves, extendable bracelets, water resistance between 200 and 500 meters, and even a collaboration with the French Navy. Now, to tinge this collection with an everyday edge, the brand has unveiled the Pelagos 39mm.
The Tudor Pelagos 39mm
The fact that the decidedly unisex watch sits at a size that works for almost all is only the beginning of its draw. Tudor is calling it a watch that sits at the “crossroads between the world of technical diving and urban sophistication”. Crafted in grade 2 titanium with a satin-brushed case, it features sunray satin finishes on its bezel and dial.

The trademark snowflake hands, with grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova® point to luminescent ceramic composite monobloc hour markers. The unidirectional rotating bezel has a sunray satin finish ceramic insert with grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova®. On the dial, the branding and logo appear at 12 o’clock, with a pop of red appearing by way of a red ‘Pelagos’ at 6.

The contrast between the different glistening finishes on steel and ceramic create definite style. But the timepiece is style with substance. The watch is powered by the Manufacture Calibre MT5400, whose variable inertia balance and silicon hairspring have assured it a COSC certification. With a frequency is 4Hz, its other attributes include a 70-hours power reserve, and a water resistance of 200 metres.

The watch is set on a satin-brushed titanium bracelet, whose T-fit clasp allows for length adjustment upto 8mm in five different positions. The clasp also has a 25mm bracelet extension function to allow the watch to be worn over a wetsuit. There is a second strap made of black rubber, along with a rubber extension piece that allows one to lengthen it to 110mm.
