It was in 1983 with the debut of the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, that Casio made its first shock-proof, sturdy watch which garnered a legion of fans for its bold, chunky style and toughness. The year 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic G-SHOCK, and the Japanese watchmaker is celebrating it with the launch of the 40th-anniversary edition, the new GM-110EARTH. The timepiece represents the true-to-life visuals of the planet Earth from space.
Taking inspiration from the skies above the poles, the 51.9mm×48.8mm resin-stainless steel case has ion plating on the multicoloured bezel, which illustrates the northern lights over the blue ‘sky’. At the same time, the hands on the dial mimic satellites orbiting the Earth.
Apart from its prominent earthly representation, the new 40th Anniversary Planet Earth Model is also a world-timer with the ability to show time in 31 time zones. The watch is also a competent stopwatch with elapsed-time and split-time measuring modes and allows one to set up to five daily alarms and one snooze alarm. The Super Illuminator dial is built with LED light and neobrite hands to allow for time-readability in the dark and is capped with a mineral crystal.
Other features of this analog-digital watch include water resistance of up to 200 metres with shock and magnetic resistance, a signature of all Casio G-SHOCK watches. Adding to the complications, the watch also features a countdown timer, an hourly signal, and a full auto-calender to the year 2099. This sporty watch comes with a resin band.
