Grand Seiko has a new Hi-Beat timepiece inspired by Mt. Iwate

Limited to 1200 pieces, the latest watch will launch globally in May this year
Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 collection was launched in 2020 to celebrate the brand’s 60th anniversary, and has only been growing since, with nature-inspired dials as one of its cornerstones. It was in Watches and Wonders 2023 that the line saw the inclusion of the brand’s first mechanical chronograph, the Tentagraph Ref. SLGC001. Read about it here. Now extending the line is the Hi-Beat 36000 80 Hours Limited Edition Ref. SLGH027, inspired by Mt. Iwate, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes.

Mt Iwate and designs inspired by it are a recurring theme in the Evolution 9 collection. The first Mt. Iwate reference was launched in 2006, the line currently consists of several timepieces inspired by it. The latest edition is encased in 40mm ever-brilliant steel, a stainless steel alloy with greater corrosion resistance properties, and features a light-blue radial dial, reminiscent of how Mt. Iwate looks from the sky - its texture mimics the ridges of Mt. Iwate. There are grooved hand and hour markers and a date window at 3 o’clock, and the dial is topped with a box-shaped sapphire crystal.

Driving the watch is the automatic movement Caliber 9SA, beating at 5Hz and boasting an 80 hours of power reserve, with the accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals decoration on the movement and the skeleton oscillating weight engraved with Hi-Beat 36000 Power Reserve 80 hours.

Limited to 1200 pieces, the watch comes on an ever-brilliant steel bracelet with three-fold clasp with push button release. The timepiece is water resistant up to 100 metres and is priced at Rs. 10,18,000 (approx.)
