Tudor has had a long association with motorsports since the 1950s, launching its first chronograph in 1970 – The Oysterdate, quickly adopted by the world of motorsport, paved the way for more than 50 years of technical chronographs for the brand. Continuing the legacy in Black Bay line, after releasing the Tudor Black Bay Chrono in Pink (in March 2024), Flamingo Blue (in January this year), and Ceramic Blue (in July 2024), Tudor has now released a new novelty – Tudor Black Bay Chrono Carbon 25 inspired by the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One Team.
The new Black Bay Chrono Carbon 25 takes cues from many iconic Black Bay models from the past. For example, the new release features Snowflake hands sitting on a domed ‘racing white’ dial – made popular in divers’ watches since 1969. Taking inspiration from the first generation of Tudor chronographs, the dial layout includes a 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock and an instantaneous date window positioned at 6 o'clock. There is also a small seconds counter at 9 o'clock. The timepiece also offers stop-seconds for precise time setting.
The watch is only 7.23mm thick The 42mm case of the timepiece is created entirely in Carbon fibre, making it extremely lightweight and ideal for sports watches, along with the bevelled lugs and Tudor rose-signed crown, recognisable characteristics of the Black Bay line, are also present. The case is redesigned to be thinner than the 316L stainless steel versions of the model and now is only 7.23mm thick. A fixed bezel in carbon fibre with a tachymetric scale completes the look and function of the timepiece.
Beating inside the case is a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with bidirectional rotor system – The Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813, certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), offers a 70-hour power reserve and displays hour, minute, second, chronograph, and date. Water resistant up to 200 meters, the watch is worn on a hybrid leather-rubber strap with a tire-like texture.
