Roger Dubuis presents Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr Woo Episode III

Blending cosmic vision with technical sophistication, the timepiece marks the third episode of the collaboration between Dr. Woo and Roger Dubuis
At Watches and Wonders this year, when I interviewed David Chaumet, CEO, Roger Dubuis, he mentioned his excitement about the then embargoed Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr Woo Episode III. When he showed me the watch, I was equally thrilled to see the highly technical and innovative cosmic timepiece it was. Now, that the brand has finally lifted the embargo, let’s get into it details.

The Maison's new release is designed in collaboration with tattoo artist Dr Woo and also features hand-applied finishing techniques used to breathe life into the timepiece, transforming it into a true work of art. The Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr Woo Episode III is the third collaborative timepiece after Excalibur Dr Woo Monotourbillon, released in 2021 and the Excalibur Dr Woo Monobalancier, released in 2023.

31 million light-years

Embodying individuality and expressiveness, the timepiece draws inspiration from the extraordinary model - the Messier 51a galaxy, located in the depths of the universe, approximately 31 million light-years away. Images from the James Webb Telescope significantly influenced Dr. Woo's work.

We come in peace

The dial of the limited edition has numerous details

Innovative engraving and galvanization techniques adorn the dial of the limited edition of 28 pieces, which recreates a galactic scene and, in a sense, brings space to your wrist. Among a total of 16 finishing techniques, two details in particular stand out: the nebula, made of rose gold, and the miniature spaceship bearing the message "We come in peace."

“I love that Roger Dubuis does watchmaking in its own way. That flair for individuality is how I approach my own work and it’s where we find common ground,’ says Dr. Woo

Titanium and rose gold

The richness of detail can also be found on the rose gold bezel

In addition to Dr. Woo's signature symbols adorning the rose gold bezel, his signature spider, highlighted in black, also contributes to the aesthetic. While the 42-millimetre case, water-resistant to 10 bar, is made of titanium, the case back is partially crafted from rose gold and features spiral engravings and a personal quote from the artist.

Manufacture calibre with tourbillon

Reliable power is provided by the in-house RD515 automatic calibre, which powers the tourbillon located at the 7 o'clock position. The minimalist tourbillon bridges are made of polished stainless steel. The precision mechanism, which boasts a 72-hour power reserve, consists of a total of 193 hand-finished components.

The price of this exceptional timepiece, which is worn on a titanium and rose gold link bracelet and equipped with a quick-change system, can be requested from the Maison.
