A look at the revival of the Historical El Primero A3817

The elusive and rare El Primero A3817 returns with the all-new Zenith Chronomaster Revival A3817.

Zenith launched the El Primero calibre back in 1969 in two broad and distinctive watch categories – the A384 and the A386. While the former featured sportier models in tonneau-shaped steel cases, the later was available in classical round cases made of steel or gold. However, when they launched the A3817 in 1971, it was defined with a combination of the sportier steel tonneau-shaped case of the A384 with a striking tri-colour dial of the A386. This resulted in the birth of a unique 1000-piece timepiece with an aesthetic that had a vintage feel.

As one of the most elusive and sought-after references of the El Primero timepieces, Zenith has decided to bring backthe Chronomaster Revival A3817. This new version is crafted in the same aesthetic of the original 1971 timepiece with the tonneau-shaped case with pump-style pushers.

Like its predecessor, the Chronomater Revival A3817 features a white lacquered dial with chronograph counters that is reminiscent of the tri-colour dial of the A386. The tones of blue and grey used for the chronograph counters on the dial with a running seconds counter at 9 o' clock is set wth blue markers and hand. The white dial is surrounded by an outer tachymeter scale that also serves as a pulsometer. The pyramid pattern seconds track also called the 'shark tooth' scale enhances the overall legibility of the dial.

The reinvented Zenith Chronomaster Revival A3817 is powered by the legendary El Primero automatic calibre movement that can viewed via the open display case back. Available in two strap options; a steel “ladder” bracelet and a light brown calf leather strap.
