Nomos Glashütte releases three Autobahn Director’s Cut models

Adding to the Autobahn series, Nomos Glashütte has presented three new Autobahn Director’s Cut models named after freeways in Germany.

Nomos Glashütte has unveiled three new Nomos Autobahn Director’s Cut models — A3, A7, A9— named after major freeways in Germany. The new Autobahn watches perfectly honour the ingenuity of the original Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date that was launched in 2018 in collaboration with designer Werner Aisslinger. The latest piece is Aisslinger’s ‘Director’s Cut’ and marks 175 years of Glashütte watchmaking heritage.

When the Autobahn was first released, Aisslinger said, "My goal was to create an archetype. The most striking aspect is perhaps the depth of the dial. Its edge is curved, like the outside lane of a racetrack or the fender of a vintage race car.” The latest Nomos Autobahn Director’s Cut models continue to follow in the footsteps of their original sibling.

The beauty of the Nomos Autobahn Director’s Cut models is reflected in the dial that promise a spatial depth, curved arc, and then its small seconds hand. All this comes together to create a concave recess for that important hand that makes the precise timing of the Nomos Swing System visible on the scale.

Limited to 175 pieces, celebrating the 175th anniversary of the manufacture, each and available in the three new colours—A3 in white-orange red, A7 in blue-yellow, and A9 in black-grey — the new Autobahns call to mind the vehicles of ‘60s and ‘70s that adorned the streets of Germany. Driven by the Nomos Caliber 6101 movement, which is visible through the sapphire casebook of the new Autobanhs, the timepieces deliver a power reserve of around 42 hours. The timepieces feature a date complication and despite that, the Nomos Caliber 6101 movement stays slender measuring only 3.6mm in height. All new Nomos Autobahn Director’s Cut models ensure legibility in the dark courtesy the striking luminous ring.

The design of the Director’s Cut A3 — Ref. 301.S1 — is based on the dashboard instruments of the 80s. It finds its home inside a 41mm stainless steel case. The A7 Ref. 1301.S2 on the other hand offers the contrast of blue and yellow on the dial which comes housed in a 41mm stainless steel case.

The final model in the new Autobahn models is the A9 Ref. 301.S3 that features a black dial enclosed in a 41mm stainless steel case. All three references have been paired with Nomos Glashütte’s Sport Director's Cut bracelet and offer a water resistance of around 100 metres.

Digging deep into the dials of these speedy timepieces, the A3 features an orange luminous ring with Super-LumiNova that looks beautiful when set against a galvanised, white silver-plated dial. The A7 flaunts a dark blue dial that accommodates a luminous ring with Super-LumiNova. The black dial of the A9 on the other hand remains discreet with its black luminous ring with Super-LumiNova.
