One of the most important parallels between TAG Heuer and Porsche is Carrera. While the former introduced the Heuer Carrera in 1963 which went on to be a very successful collection, the latter had named their successful participation in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana car engine “Carrera”. So the name has been associated with both the brands for generations.
So to celebrate the partnership between the two brands, it comes as no surprise that the first instalment of this collaboration is a classic Carrera timepiece – the Carrera Porsche Chronograph. This is a timepiece that pays tribute to the heritage of the two legendary brands and offers a glimpse into what the future may hold for them.
Largely based on TAG Heuer's Carrera Sport Chronograph design, the new watch also houses a multitude of features that are inspired by Porsche's design codes. Crafted in a 44m steel polished case, the watch features Porsche's engraved inscription in red on the bezel along with TAG's distinctive tachymeter scale. The grey asphalt dial built especially for this watch is reminiscence of the racetrack. Add to this Porsche's unmistakable font used for the indexes that is inspired by the numbers on the dashboard of fine Porsche sportscar.
The overall colour scheme of the watch in red, black and grey is inspired by both the colour tones of Porsche and historic Heuer models. The black chronograph counters set against the grey dial and decorated with red-tipped silver hands is seamlessly coordinated.
On the caseback is the transparent sapphire that showcases the oscillating mass which has been redesigned to Porsche's celebrated steering wheel. Beating at the heart of the timepiece is the Carrera Heuer 02 manufacture movement with a power reserve of 80 hours.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is available in two versions; on a soft strap in luxurious calf leather that reflects the Porsche leather seats and an interlocking bracelet version.
Both the watches will be available from February 2021.
