Vacheron Constantin presents Watches and Wonders 2022 novelties

Reviving a legendary 1977 model, presenting a range of pieces coming out of the Les Cabinotiers department, and showcasing a minute repeater tourbillon alongside a perpetual calendar chronograph, Vacheron Constantin unveils its Watches and Wonders 2022 novelties.

Vacheron Constantin presented a great range of timepieces at the Watches and Wonders 2022, from an openworked watch to a perpetual calendar. For the brand, an icon also returns as it reissues its legendary 222, unveiled in 1977 for the 222nd anniversary of the maison. Let's see what we have in store for us at the Geneva event from the watchmaker.

Historiques 222

The Historiques 222 Ref. 4200H/222J-B935 is a re-edition of the legendary 1977 'Jumbo'. The contemporary model has a 37mm body crafted 18K 3N yellow gold. The ultra elegant timepiece is powered by the Calibre 2455/2 movement, which achieves a power reserve of around 40 hours. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), the movement promises enhanced precision. The oscillating weight of movement was specifically developed for this model and has been engraved with the original 222 logo, surrounded by a fluted motif echoing the bezel. The caseback is openworked, revealing the calibre.

The vertical-satin-brushed crown and bracelet, circular satin-finished bezel and polished hour-markers, hand-chamfered gear trains and bridges adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif, as well as a circular-grained mainplate reflect the maison's attention to detail. Its dial features the vintage font of the 'AUTOMATIC' inscription and the date window is offset from the outer rim of the dial to improve legibility, courtesy the slightly smaller diameter of the calibre compared with its predecessor. The modern Historiques 222 has been paired with an 18K 3N yellow gold vertical satin finished bracelet.

Les Cabinotiers Grisaille - Turtle

The Les Cabinotiers Grisaille - Turtle Ref. 2400C/000G-071C is a themed timepiece coming straight out of the Les Cabinotiers department, paying tribute to the world of the sea and its mythology. Its dial has been enamelled using a rare technique, which brings together miniature enamel painting and grisaille enamel for a marine decor.

This artistic timepiece has been housed in a 40mm 18K white gold case with hours, minutes, and seconds hands. The watch is driven by the self-winding Calibre 2460 SC, achieving a power reserve of around 40 hours, marked at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz). The engine has been equipped with a 916/1000 gold oscillating weight embellished with a guilloché motif pattern. The Les Cabinotiers Grisaille - Turtle piece has been paired with a dark blue alligator leather strap secured by a white gold pin buckle.

Les Cabinotiers Minute Repeater Tourbillon - Flying Dutchman

The Les Cabinotiers department delivers another themed timepiece - Les Cabinotiers Minute repeater tourbillon - Flying Dutchman Ref. 6540C/000G-034C. A single-piece edition Les Cabinotiers timepiece, it evokes the legend of the Flying Dutchman with its dial crafted using a rare technique combining miniature enamel painting and grisaille enamel, offering a spooky vision of the ship taking on a stormy sea.

Les Cabinotiers Tourbillon Jewellery - Sea Horse

Another sea creature appears on the dial, courtesy the Les Cabinotiers department. The Les Cabinotiers Tourbillon Jewellery - Sea Horse Ref. 6007C/000J-056C employs four artistic crafts at work -guilloché, engraving, enamelling, and gem-setting. Its bezel is adorned with a colour gradient of sapphires, ranging from intense blue to a slightly lighter shade. The single-piece edition comes housed in a 39mm 18K 5N pink gold case, perfectly suiting all wrists.
