"This award tops off an exceptional year for Hublot by recognising the expertise of our watchmakers, engineers and designers. I would like to thank them all. I would also like to thank Professor Dr. Peter Zec and the Red Dot Award jury for choosing Hublot from such a distinguished line up of competitors. And now back to work, we have a title to defend!" Ricardo Guadalupe CEO, Hublot

Organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, in 1995, the Red Dot Award is a competition which rewards the most worthy designs from a particular period. Like an Oscar award, the Red Dot is the ultimate award.

This year, the competition received over 5,500 creations from 54 different chosen countries, which were judged by a jury comprising of 40 professors, journalists, and independent designers. The verdict, at the end of ceremony, saw the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Magic Gold watch as the winner of the highest distinction of the Red Dot Awards: Product Design, "the Red Dot: Best of Best 2017".

The award recognises the high-quality watchmaking, technique, innovation, and aesthetics, which helped push the boundaries in order to create the Big Bang Meca-10 Magic Gold. Balancing the retro with the future, the watch – with the HUB1201 in-house manufacture movement – defines Hublot's approach to innovation with its key material, Magic Gold – the fruit of a research and development partnership between Hublot and EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). Fusing gold with an alloy of ceramic, it is the only truly scratch proof 18 carat gold in the market, today!
