Watches and Wonders 2023: Cartier’s new models reveal a futuristic take on the classics

Cartier’s new series of timepieces melds the classics with futuristic and creative watchmaking.
Revealed at Watches and Wonders 2023, Cartier’s collection seeks to explore new realms of haute horlogerie. Discover the timepieces below. 

Cartier Tank Normale
Cartier Privé, a celebration of the brand's most iconic models, welcomes its 7th timepiece to the exclusive collection: the Tank Normale. Inspired by the bevelled sapphire crystal of the original Tank created in 1917 by Louis Cartier, the new Tank Normale is available in two hour/minute versions: yellow gold with a brown alligator strap and platinum with a black alligator strap. Both models are also available with a yellow gold bracelet or a platinum strap option.

Limited to 50 pieces, the Maison also presents a skeleton version of Cartier’s new Tank which is equipped with a skeleton movement comprising of a 24-hour complication that is marked by a skeleton sun and crescent moon. The daytime hours feature on the upper part of the dial and the night hours on the lower part. Both versions of the Tank Normale feature a bejewelled crown with a blue sapphire cabochon for the yellow-gold and a ruby cabochon for the platinum. 

A third version set with brilliant-cut diamonds is also available in a limited set of 20 pieces and features a brilliant-cut diamond on the winding crown. It sits on an alligator strap in two shades of blue.

Seeking inspiration from the Tank Cintrée, the new Tank Américaine is available in a curved case and sits on the patented adjustable strap with a folding buckle. Equipped with the new 1899 MC movement, the new Tank Américaine comes in three versions and 11 styles with 9 featuring quartz movements. The models are variations of an all-gold and steel piece with a leather strap; rose gold and diamonds with a leather strap, and, diamond-paved white and rose gold with a metal bracelet. 


 
Santos-Dumont Skeleton
Powered by the new automatic skeleton 9629 MC calibre, a manufacture calibre that took the Maison two years to develop, the new Santos-Dumont reinterprets the elegance of the original 1904 model in three iconic square-shaped skeletonized versions: rose gold, stainless-steel, and 150 pieces limited-edition yellow gold version with navy lacquer. All three versions include visible screws, a beaded crown, and a blue cabochon. 
The skeleton dial features blue steel hands and displays the micro-rotor at 8 o'clock as a demoiselle - a lightweight plane architected by the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. The new Santos-Dumont Skeleton offers a 44-hour power reserve and is available in three strap/bracelet options: dark blue alligator for the yellow gold limited edition models, grey and blue alligator for the steel, and burgundy alligator leather straps for the rose gold.

Baignoire
Available in three versions that celebrate the bright gold and the signature oval shape of the first Baignoire from 1912, the new Baignoire timepiece by Cartier is available in three versions: rose gold, yellow gold, and fully paved. The oval shape of the timepiece continues through the dial to the bezel along with the signature Roman numerals. The novelty is crowned with a richer golden ribbon making it a distinct jewellery timepiece.

Clash (Un)limited de Cartier
Cartier celebrates the culture of style with its iconic jewellery watch, the new Clash (Un)limited. The elegant yet striking timepiece alternates brushed and satin-finished gold, and combines yellow or rose gold with a new shade of gold in violet tones, giving rise to three versions: diamond-paved yellow gold, rose gold, and white gold. The Clash (Un)limited is further accentuated with exceptional stones in black and white with onyx, black spinels, obsidian, and diamonds, or in different colours with coral, black spinels, chrysoprase, tsavorites, and diamonds.

La Panthère de Cartier
Saving one of the most iconic pieces for the last, Cartier’s Panthère magnetizes the Maison’s new range of jewellry watches with a black lacquer dial enclosed in the sculptural head of the panther. 


Available in yellow or rose gold speckled with black lacquer and tsavorite eyes or in diamond-paved white gold with emerald eyes, the new La Panthère models are designed in three-dimension visible through the nose, cheeks, eyes, and pointed ears of the panther.
