Breguet announces R&D line with Expérimentale 1 featuring a 10 Hz tourbillon

A final chapter in Breguet’s 250th anniversary celebrations, Expérimentale 1, features the brand’s very first high-frequency (10 Hz) tourbillon with a magnetic escapement and delivering constant force to the balance
Marking the last release for Breguet’s 250th anniversary celebrations and the beginning of a new R&D line, the Expérimentale 1, is devoted to horological innovation rooted in scientific performance. A blend of past and future, the maiden watch integrates the brand’s first constant-force magnetic escapement, combined with a 10 Hz tourbillon that serves as the primary regulating organ. It is powered by the Caliber 7250, providing a 72-hour power reserve, a manually wound construction measuring 33.8 mm in diameter and 6.3 mm thick.

Certified under the Breguet hallmark in the Scientific category, it provides a deviation tolerance of ±1 second per day. The 10 Hz frequency is achieved by two escape-wheels equipped with a magnetic track and an intermediate stop wheel ensuring that the device does not suffer any unwanted jumps. Most of the tourbillon components are made from non-magnetic materials to prevent interference with its operation. The balance spring is silicon, the fixed fourth wheel is NiP12 (made using LIGA technology), and the remaining parts use titanium or nivagauss.

The constant-force magnetic escapement is engineered with a Grade 2 titanium escape wheel while the tourbillon is executed in Grade 5 titanium. The latter contains 74 components and weighs 0.60 grams. Its cage measures 13.7 mm in diameter and 5.45 mm thick. Overall, the movement comprises 266 components and 37 jewels. It withstands magnetic exposure up to 600 gauss.

Aesthetically, the watch adopts a regulator-style display inspired by the historic Breguet No. 3448. Hours are positioned at 6 o’clock, minutes are offset with a central hand, and seconds are indicated on the tourbillon axis. The rings for hours and seconds are in gold and treated with Super-LumiNova®, as are the open-tipped hands. Individual numbering is located at 3 o’clock, with the Breguet signature at 9 o’clock and two secret signatures at 11 and 1 o’clock on the minute track.

Its 43.5 mm, a size inspired by the standards of the Marine collection, case is crafted in 18-karat Breguet gold, measuring 13.30 mm in thickness. A double-stepped fluted caseband and hollowed lugs integrate blue ALD-treated gold inlays. The crown follows the same material treatment. A box-type sapphire crystal with glare-proof and hydrophobic coatings covers the upper surface; a flat sapphire caseback engraved with the 250th anniversary inscription offers a full view of the movement. The model is fitted with a blue rubber strap  and an 18-karat gold pin buckle. Both elements feature a tool-free interchangeability system, a first for the brand.
