Excited to visit the country for the first time, triple Roland winner Sanchez took out time to answer further questions about the tournament, and shared some valuable advice for the current participants. Read on to know more:
WTI: What are your views on Longines' association with sports and tennis in particular?
ASV: I think its great. Longines is great company and has always been a strong supporter of sports. They have been the main sponsor for Roland Garros for many years, and everyone knows of their strong partnership.
For me, being here to help the participants win a wild card to play further on in the tournament, is an amazing feeling. This is a big opportunity for the current generation and one day, hopefully, they can do as well as we did. I thank this fantastic combination for what they're doing for the sport, and I've very glad to be the ambassador for this partnership.
WTI: What do you think of the players in the tournament till now?
ASV: I think with the kind of opportunities available today, everything is on a constant and positive rise. A lot of new players are coming up, especially women players.
Tennis is such a sport, where the will and determination to play, over time, becomes such a strong part of you that people start recognising you for it.
WTI: What piece of advice would you give to the young players?
ASV: Give it your best. Practice, stay positive, focused, and always play right. Remember, dedication and hard work pays off.
WTI: Any other hobbies and interests you have, apart from playing tennis?
ASV: I love horses. I'm a big fan of horse riding. Now, that I don't play tennis that often, it's easier for me to pursue it. Earlier I had to be more careful because I was afraid i'd hurt myself. But, I enjoy it. I also love car racing. I like the speed. When I have time, I grab my car and race a few laps as it helps take away the adrenaline. Oh, and I'm also a soccer fan. My favorite team is Barcelona.
