Ninety watches have been shortlisted from 254 entries to win the top accolades at the 2022 Grand Prix D’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), to be held on November 10, 2022, in Geneva this year. Considered the top prize in watchmaking, the watches will compete to win one of 20 titles in 15 categories, including the prestigious ‘Aiguille d’Or’ Grand Prix best-in-show award.
A quick look at the list shows that some of the year’s most popular pieces have made the cut.
The 'Ladies’ category features Arnold & Son’s Perpetual Moon Eclipse I, and Konstantin Chaykin’s Harley Quinn, amongst others, while the 'Ladies Complication' category has the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Ultra-Thin "RD#3", along with Hermès Arceau Le temps Voyageur and Van Cleef & Arpels Lady Arpels Heures Florales Cerisier watch. In the 'Men’s' category, the recently unveiled Bulgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton 8 Days, along with Zenith Calibre 135-Observatoire and Trilobe’s Une Folle Journée Black Edition, are listed.
In the 'Men’s Complication' category, there is the Armin Strom Orbit Manufacture Edition, along with the Watches and Wonders crowd-favourite Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, apart from other watches. The Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0, and Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 are among the six watches featured in the ‘Iconic’section.
Not surprisingly, in the 'Mechanical Exception' category, Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra 10th Anniversary, the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance First Edition, and Chopard's L.U.C Full Strike Tourbillon feature, and in the 'Chronograph’ series, there is MB&F's Legacy Machine Sequential Evo.
But it gets better. Watch lovers in India have a chance to see the nominated watches in the flesh. GPHG, in association with Ethos Watches, will be exhibiting the pieces in New Delhi on 8 and 9 October 2022.
