Hermès introduces Slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider

The latest pocket watch by Hermès is a limited edition of only three pieces
French luxury design house Hermès has unveiled a new Slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider pocket watch, which combines artisanal savoir-faire with the unmistakable style of the luxury brand. It is a 45mm 18K white gold crafted timepiece, designed in 2015 by Philippe Delhotal, creative designer, Hermès

The Slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider pocket watch, is a handcrafted gem in expressive colour splendour. Its lid is adorned with the design of the Carré Mysterious Rider, which comes from the illustrator and designer Viktor Hachmang. The Dutch artist, finalist of the Grand Prix du Carré Hermès, created a futuristic motif with echoes of Japanese art and comic book styles. Strong colours and geometric patterns bring the "mysterious rider" sitting on a shiny motorcycle to life. In the background you can see the facade of a shop that is reminiscent of the historic Hermès address in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré in the heart of Paris.

Rare craftsmanship

The delicate and dynamic motif is applied using the demanding and time-consuming Champlevé enamel technique. The artisan creates tiny indentations in the metal. These are then filled with coloured glass powder that has been mixed with natural oils. To fix the pigments, the pieces are finally fired in the oven in several passes at over 800 °C. The effort is worth it, because the colours are of unique brilliance and longevity.

The simple white dial hidden under this artistic cover also uses traditional enamelling techniques. The enameller applies a number of layers of enamel, each of which is dried and fired. Finally, the red numerals and indices are painted on by hand.

An ultra-thin manufacture calibre

The Slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider beats to the rhythm of the ultra-thin H1950 manufacture movement. The automatic calibre, which is only 2.6mm high, drives the hour and minute hands.

A strap and case made of matte alligator leather in "Rouge H," which were made with the savoir-faire of Hermès' master saddlers and bag makers, underline the purple colouring of the Slim d'Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider.
