In 2004, Vacheron Constantin unveiled its beautiful, vintage inspired Patrimony line, whose design took after the 1957 Ref. 6187. The Patrimony collection marks its 20th anniversary this year, and the brand is celebrating that with a release of a 100-piece Patrimony self-winding watch, Ref. 85180/000J-H069, created in collaboration with French designer Ora ïto. The new watch is also inspired by designs from the 1950s—minimalist round cases with a slim bezel, curved applied hour-markers and baton-type hands, ‘pearl’ minutes track, and slender calibres.
Embracing simplicity, the new 40mm timepiece is crafted in 18K 3N yellow gold case featuring a tone-on-tone gold-coloured dial with concentric circles extending from the centre like rippling waves of light. ïto is an astronomy enthusiast and looked to ‘Baily Pearls’, a phenomenon that occurs after the eclipse of the sun by the moon, to design the pattern. The hour markers, slightly curved hands, and ‘pearl’ minutes track are made in 18K 3N yellow gold. The date display sits at 6 o’clock matching the tone of the dial. The Vacheron Constantin logo is metallic transferred lying beneath the domed sapphire crystal.
Powering the watch is the brand’s in-house automatic Calibre 2450 Q6, revealed through the sapphire caseback, with a 40-hour reserve. Decorations like circular graining and Côte de Genève adorn the movement, together with an openworked gold oscillating weight. Keeping up with the vintage aesthetic, the timepiece has a burgundy calfskin strap with rectangular punctuations and a 18K 3N yellow gold pin buckle featuring the half Maltese cross-shaped logo.
