Whether it is a Tank or Santos, Cartier is known to deeply integrate the Art Deco style of the 1920s in its watches. Geometric and bold, the brand has now followed the same aesthetic for the new Tank Américaine special edition, a 120-piece limited edition for Europe (Ref. CRWGTA0367). Viewed as an elongated version of the Tank, the Tank Américaine first joined the line in 1989 and then continued to evolve.
Europe-only Tank AméricaineThis time, the brand has unveiled a new Tank Américaine featuring a 24.4 mm x 44.4mm x 8.6mm platinum case with an eight-sided crown accentuated with a faceted ruby (usually there is a sapphire cabochon used for gold cases and blue spinel is used for steel cases). The dial is minimal and displays blue geometric patterns in different shades of blue to add depth, formed with a technique called camaïeu, also known as "grisaille" in French. Further, there are elongated Roman hour markers at 6 and 12 o’clock, and sword-shaped hour and minute hands.
Turning the watch over shows a closed caseback inscribed with ‘Limited Edition 120 pieces’. Powering it is the automatic Calibre 1899, which was designed to fit in the LM Tank Américaine. The watch has a power reserve of about 40 hours. An interchangeable semi-matte blue alligator leather strap with a white gold folding clasp completes the watch.
