An early 20th-century Jaeger-LeCoultre watch sells for €68,200

The rare and vintage lozenge-shaped gold watch was initially valued at €800, which is Rs. 80,000 (approx.)
At the Boisseau-Pomez, a regional auction, held last month, in Troyes, France, a rare and vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre 750 yellow gold watch sold for €68,200, which is Rs. 68,86,000 (approx.), to a New York-based collector. Sold for over 85 times its original estimate, which was €800, the bidding for the watch picked up thanks to its unique lozenge-shaped case and good condition.

The timepiece seems to have been made in the early 1920s or 1930s as its aesthetics are influenced by the Art Deco era. The style was popular during the period and is characterized by geometric shapes and bold lines. The 46 mm x 24 mm timepiece features a black dial with even numbers Arabic markers and odd hour markers and dauphine hands, all coated with lume.

“This watch is a perfect embodiment of the timeless spirit we strive to capture,” says Jérôme Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. “It tells a story of innovation, elegance, and savoir-faire – one that continues to resonate almost a century after its creation,” he added.

Assigned to Lot 119, the watch is powered by a mechanical movement and is engraved with the number 75385 on the closed caseback.
